Embracing Yourself

Have you reached a point in life where you are fed up with your surroundings and feel as if nothing is going as planned?  Do you feel like you are at a crossroad in life and are not sure which way to go?

Two years ago, I was feeling the same way. In my twenty’s I had my life mapped out. But once I turned thirty, life hit me like a ton of bricks when I realized my goals were not accomplished in the allotted timeframe that I wanted to accomplish them. Also, I was deeply depressed in a toxic relationship and hated myself for allowing my life to be so out of control.

It wasn’t until this year that I decided that it was time for me to enjoy life and embrace the struggles, become fearless in attaining my goals and being brave enough to let toxic relationships go. I decided that I was overdue for a self-love journey and it was time to start. At some point, you have to do the same.

If you are at the same crossroads in life, then it is time for you to take your personal journey of self-love. It is time for you to encourage yourself, applaud your accomplishments, appreciate yourself and most importantly embrace yourself. You have to realize that life is not perfect and everything does not go according to plan, so it’s no need to beat yourself up about it. Just continue on your journey and keep pushing towards greatness no matter how hard it gets.

On my journey, I have found a few things to help me that I am sure will help you as well:

  • Date yourself.

This is number one on my list and it is also the hardest, especially when you are used to being with a group of friends or in a relationship. Going out alone can be one of the most rewarding experiences you can have while on your journey of self-love. When you go out alone you do not have to please anyone else but yourself. This type of outing will also help you get in touch with what you enjoy doing without the influence of others.

  • Embrace your physical appearance.

Coming to terms with the not so perfect parts of your appearance is very important on your self-love journey. Once you realize that every curve on your body is perfect, the short kinky hair is perfect, and the big nose is perfect then no one will ever be able to tell you otherwise.

  • Find a way to de-stress.

This is another big one. Finding a way to rid your mind of the stressful events of the day increases positive energy. It is important to keep stress levels at a low so that it does not lead to major issues such as high-blood pressure or heart disease.

  • Seek inspiration.

Refuel your spirit. A lot of times a major reason why we are so unhappy is because our spirit is running on empty.  Find a spiritual leader who you can trust and speak with him or her about the problems you are facing. Find a church home that you can relate too. You never know where your blessings will come from once you start giving your time to others and the church.

  • Treat yourself.

Self-explanatory. You work hard and it’s ok to purchase that new handbag you have been eyeing or that new dress and shoes. Whatever it is that makes you happy – do it and love it.

Life is short and you should live everyday fearless and in control of your life. Do not waste time on self-pity or self-hate. Embrace this time in your life and make a promise to love yourself first and always no matter what happens.
