It’s Valentine’s Day. Every woman loves chocolates, teddy bears, and a candlelight dinner with their special somebody. But, that is not every woman’s reality. Social media will have you thinking that every person has the perfect relationship. And though others may very well be happily in love and it’s perfectly fine to applaud their love, it doesn’t have to determine your happiness as a woman. You should always show yourself some TLC no matter what day it is.

Whether you’re spending V-Day alone or with your significant other, it’s important that you still remember to pour a little self-love back into yourself. Here’s how you can do that:

  1. Get a massage or a pedicure. Yes, treat yourself.  As women, we’re constantly on the go and we often forget to take a breather. It’s nice to allow ourselves to be pampered and taken care of. We’re human and deserving.
  2. See a movie solo. Going to the movies on your own can be super relaxing. It is okay to learn to enjoy your own company while enjoying a movie of your choice.
  3. Hang out with your girlfriends. There’s nothing like spending time with the very women who’ve seen you through every part of your journey. Every time I hang out with my friends, we get to cut loose in the best way possible and we can get to catch up on what’s been happening in each other’s lives. At the end of our meet-ups, there’s always tears, laughter, and of course, there’s a lot of love.
  4. Invest in yourself without shame.  Selfishness, contrary to popular belief, is not a sin. You have to live life with a full cup first. You cannot give unless you have something substantial to give. So take this Valentine’s Day and the whole entire year to do things that makes you smile. Forget what anyone feels or says. Choose at least one hobby or thing that you can do that makes you feel like a top priority.

Understand that while Valentine’s Day is a great way to show appreciation for your loved ones or vice versa, it shouldn’t be the only day that we as women receive special attention. You are loved. You are valuable just the way you are. No amount of gifts can amount to your self-worth. So, make sure that you’re giving yourself some much-needed love too.
